Group advocates for equal parenting rights through Senate Bill 519

A group of fathers, many of whom are members of Friends for Protection of Men, are pushing for Senate Bill 519, which would be a step toward the equal parenting rights of both parents in the event of a divorce, WECT reported on May 13.

Judge James Faison, who handles child custody cases, says it is true that in most cases, primary custody is granted to the mother rather than the father. Greg Rogers, a member of the advocate group who is in the middle of a custody battle over his own three-year-old son, believes that the laws need to change with the times. He believes since both men and women work now, men should have the same rights as women over their children.

The advocacy group will demonstrate in Raleigh on June 19 to call for the passage of Senate Bill 519.
