Daughters associated with divorce due to strength of embryos – study

A new study revealed that female embryos are stronger and more likely to survive through a stressful pregnancy, the Mail Online reported on July 16.

According to Duke University scientists, female embryos are tougher in the womb, making it more likely that they will reach to full term, even if the mother is experiencing great stress. This may explain why marriages that involve female children are slightly more likely to end in divorce–the embryos persist even when a relationship is already experiencing problems.

The researchers further noted, although could not explain, that couples who experienced serious problems early on were more likely to produce female children later on.
