Shooting between agents at the California Immigration and Customs Enforcement office

Last Thursday evening, a California Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer, Ezequiel Garcia, shot Kevin Kozak, his superior officer, six times.

The shooting was said to be incited from an argument during Garcia’s performance counseling.  Fortunately, Kozak is in stable condition.  Garcia was shot and killed by a third officer nearby.  It was stated by Garcia’s wife that they were considering divorce after 14 years of marriage.  She believes that Garcia’s actions could be related to the pending divorce.

“We are doing everything humanly possible to understand why it happened and ensure it will not happen again,” said Special Agent in Charge, Claude Arnold.

Movies help parents and teens deal with divorce

Divorce is difficult on everyone in the family–not just the parents.  Talking with your teenager can be a challenging feat especially considering they might feel uncomfortable expressing their own feelings on the situation.

According to Dr. Nadia Torres-Eaton, family therapist at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County in California, movies can help start a dialogue between parents and teens about divorce.  It provides a way for the teen to relate to the story in the movie and talk about their own situation without feeling like they are being sat down for a “talk.”

For instance, in the movie “E.T.: The Extra-terrestrial,” Elliott befriends E.T. like his own brother.  But the impetus for that relationship is based upon his absentee father.

If you are considering divorce, it can be very helpful to meet with experienced representation to guide you and your family through this challenging situation.  Contact Raleigh divorce lawyers of Marshall & Taylor Law Firm, P.C. at 919-833-1040 today.

Reality star Kim Kardashian and NBA player Kris Humphries were wed in August, and a short 72 days later, Kardashian filed for divorce at the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday.

Irreconcilable differences were cited as the reason, and Kardashian stated, “I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don’t work out as planned.”

Experts recommend treating spouse like business partner in divorce

Some divorce experts say one of the easiest ways to communicate with a spouse during a divorce is to interact with them as if they were an unsatisfied business partner or client.  If you have children, experts say to treat the children as your most important business asset.

Also, some recommend having a plan of how to schedule a meeting with a spouse, the issues you want to discuss, and what to do if things become emotional or hostile.

Rather than showing up randomly to talk with a spouse or trying to settle matters over the phone, experts recommend setting up an appointment the same way you would with a business partner or client at a neutral location.  Doing this allows both parties to plan and refrain from letting emotions get in the way of what is most important.
