Divorce papers filed on same day by David Arquette and Courteney Cox

David Arquette filed paperwork to divorce Courteney Cox on Friday, and minutes later his soon-to-be ex-wife filed her response to those same papers.

The couple, who married in 1999, have been separated since October 2010. Eight years ago, they welcomed a daughter, Coco, and are now both seeking joint legal and physical custody of their daughter. According to several sources, a prenuptial agreement was not in place at the time of their marriage.

Arquette has not asked for either child support or spousal support, and if a prenuptial agreement was indeed not present, then he would be entitled to half of all that Courteney earned while they were married.

Survey suggests welfare increases chances of divorce

A survey of 295 married couples suggests that receiving welfare and other forms of government assistance, like food stamps and Medicaid, increases marital dissatisfaction.

A research professor at the University of Missouri authored the study which asked couples about their happiness with their marriage.  Among couples receiving less than $20,000 in annual income, couples receiving government assistance were much more likely to respond that they were dissatisfied with their marriage.

The professor acknowledged that finances are widely known to cause disagreement and dissatisfaction within a marriage.  However, he said he was surprised to see that welfare dramatically increased the chances of marital satisfaction in couples in the same income bracket.
