Oklahoma oil magnate to pay over $995M in divorce settlement

A Reuters article on November 10 stated that Continental Resources CEO Harold Hamm was ordered to pay his estranged wife a $995.5 million settlement in their divorce.
The settlement was recently ordered by Oklahoma Special Judge Howard Haralson. Sue Ann Hamm, who was a former executive of Continental Resources, had a significant role in the company’s massive growth. Before the year ends Harold will need to settle over $322 million to Sue Ann. The remaining settlement worth $650 million will be paid through monthly installments. Aside from the settlement millions worth of properties were already awarded to Sue Ann when the case was filed two years ago. Court Upholds Unsealing of NASCAR CEO Divorce Documents

After over a year long battle over the unsealing of NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France’s divorce documents, the North Carolina Court of Appeals unanimously voted to uphold a previous ruling to unseal the documents on Monday, December 31.

France’s lawyers have worked for years to maintain the confidentiality of documents from France’s 2008 divorce from ex-wife Megan France, to whom he was married twice. In 2011, the Court of Appeals favored the public’s right to know against France’s secrecy. As a result of this ruling, District Court Judge Jena Culler order the documents unsealed, reversing another judge’s earlier order.

Following the 2011 ruling, France’s lawyers appealed, stating that this reversal could lead to “judicial anarchy.” However, this most recent ruling maintains that the documents must be unsealed for public knowledge.

Norwegian study indicates correlation between divorce and household chores

A recently published Norwegian study utilizing data from 2007 and 2008 revealed that the division of household chores are correlated to the number of divorces that occur among married Norwegian couples.

The data supports the idea that equality in the home may not mean a successful marriage. Different factors were measured in the study, including happiness in marriage and the amount of chores that were performed by the men and women in their respective marriages.

The results of the study indicated that marriages in which household chores were split equally between husband and wife did not last as often as marriages in which the woman handled the bulk of the duties at home.

Divorce is a serious matter and should be handled with respect for both parties involved. If you have questions regarding divorce, please contact the divorce attorneys of Marshall & Taylor PLLC, by calling 919-833-1040 today.

She is currently grieving the loss of her teenage son, who tragically died in a jet ski accident while the child custody case for her two children with Usher was taking place.
