Facebook impacts current divorce rates

The popular networking site Facebook has been cited quite frequently in recent divorce cases across the United States.

According to Divorce Online, more than one-third of all divorce cases that were filed in 2011 had the word “Facebook” included somewhere in the official paperwork. This social media site has been used to establish poor parenting, cheating, and negative behavior from a spouse in court documents.

Children’s profiles are viewed in order to determine if they are misbehaving, and that information can be reflected on parents in child custody cases. Access to personal account information must also be shared in certain divorce cases, and direct messages can be used to show adultery in a relationship.
