Kathryn Tart
Senior Attorney
Brief Biography
For Kathryn Tart, family law is about more than resolving disputes — it’s about helping clients bring order and clarity to some of the most overwhelming times in their lives. Since 2004, she has dedicated her career to guiding families through divorce, custody, alimony, and equitable distribution with patience, compassion, and a steady hand.
Kathryn’s approach is straightforward and client-focused. Drawing on two decades of experience, she has successfully handled complex litigation, negotiations, adoptions, and juvenile law matters. Known for her ability to listen carefully and cut through chaos, Kathryn emphasizes solutions that allow families to reach fair resolutions as efficiently as possible — often within six months of being retained. Before joining Marshall & Taylor PLLC in 2024, she ran her own family law practice for more than a decade, building a reputation for both skill and dedication.
Beyond her work in the courtroom, Kathryn has been an active leader in the legal and local community. She has served as President of the Twelfth Judicial Bar, participated in the North Carolina Bar Association and multiple local bars, and is currently active with the Tenth Judicial Bar and Wake County Bar. Her service extends to civic leadership as well, from the Cape Fear Christian Academy Board of Directors to her current role as Chair of the Fuquay-Varina Board of Adjustments.
A Georgia native raised near Lake Norman, Kathryn now calls North Carolina home, where she enjoys time with her two sons, horseback riding, traveling, and embracing the same patience and resilience that define her practice.
