Death of the mother of Tupac Shakur may ignite an estate battle

Afeni Shakur, mother of the late rapper Tupac Shakur, passed away on Monday, May 2, in the midst of a meticulous divorce battle concerning her son’s estate.

Shakur had a net worth of over $50 million after becoming the arbiter of her son’s estate, which reportedly earns nearly $1 million every year and paid her more than $20,000 a month. Shakur filed for a divorce from her husband of 12 years, North Carolina minister Gust Davis, on March 18, 2016. Shakur and Davis, who were former residents of North Carolina, were not bound by a prenuptial agreement and Davis requested alimony payments totaling about half of the money generated by the estate, on top of money from other assets acquired by the former couple.
