Fight between judge and mother during Durham custody hearing

Video surfaces of a spat between Durham, North Carolina resident RiShawna Morrison and District Court Judge James Hill during a custody hearing.

The incident occurred during a trial to determine custody of their three-year-old son early last month. According to Morrison, the judge called the two of them idiots several times and accused her of withholding her son from his father.

Morrison, who felt the need to defend herself and her child, admonished the judge for some time, and, as a result, was handcuffed and held in jail for one month for contempt. She plans on filing complaints against the judge and deputies that restrained her.

Morrison said the outburst came after months of feeling like she was getting nowhere in the custody proceedings. This process can be frustrating and emotionally draining.
