Movies help parents and teens deal with divorce

Divorce is difficult on everyone in the family–not just the parents.  Talking with your teenager can be a challenging feat especially considering they might feel uncomfortable expressing their own feelings on the situation.

According to Dr. Nadia Torres-Eaton, family therapist at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County in California, movies can help start a dialogue between parents and teens about divorce.  It provides a way for the teen to relate to the story in the movie and talk about their own situation without feeling like they are being sat down for a “talk.”

For instance, in the movie “E.T.: The Extra-terrestrial,” Elliott befriends E.T. like his own brother.  But the impetus for that relationship is based upon his absentee father.

If you are considering divorce, it can be very helpful to meet with experienced representation to guide you and your family through this challenging situation.  Contact Raleigh divorce lawyers of Marshall & Taylor Law Firm, P.C. at 919-833-1040 today.
