Over the last fiscal year, the Tennessee Department of Human Services collected over $557 million in child support. The collections are withheld or garnished from the paychecks of parents who default on their payments.
$33.25 million was collected from tax refunds and another $420,000 was taken from intercepted stimulus checks, adding to the total. These collections broke the former state record of $530 million the previous year.
