The wife of U.S. Rep. Lacy Clay says the congressman did not inform her or their children about their impending divorce. However, the St. Louis Democrat said in a statement that he and his wife, Ivie Clay, have been discussing the divorce for months. Ivie, on the other hand, maintains that she and their children learned of the divorce filing through the media.
Ivie Clay’s attorney also criticized Circuit Court Clerk Mariano Favazza for contacting the congressman after a reporter asked for a copy of the divorce file. Soon after that, the case was sealed. Favazza, who is a Democrat, tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he called to make sure that a motion to seal the case had not been filed without his knowledge. According to Favazza, cases involving high-profile people are commonly sealed.
